Suicide attack at Islamabad mosque kills 31
Islamabad | Desk: A horrific suicide attack in Pakistan's capital Islamabad on Friday shocked the country. At least 31 people were killed and dozens of others injured in a powerful explosion during Friday prayers at the Khadija Tul Kubra Mosque in Tarlai Kalan area of south-eastern Islamabad.
According to security sources, the attacker blew himself up with a bomb after being stopped at the main gate of the mosque. Authorities have confirmed that around 169 people have been taken to hospital following rescue operations, many of whom are in critical condition.
Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has strongly condemned this incident, calling it a heinous crime against humanity.
In the visuals surfaced on social media, debris and blood are seen scattered all around inside the mosque.
A state of emergency has been declared in hospitals, where large numbers of children and adults are being treated. This attack is considered to be one of the deadliest terrorist incidents in the history of Islamabad, which has brought back memories of the 2008 Marriott Hotel attack.
