Durg | Correspondent: A tragic accident has come to light in the Risali Municipal Corporation area of Chhattisgarh's Durg district, where a 22-year-old contractual employee lost his life on Saturday after being electrocuted during electrical repair work. The deceased has been identified as Roshan Kumar Dewangan, who was employed by the corporation as an unskilled lineman.

According to reports, the accident occurred in the Ganesh Nagar locality while Roshan was performing repair work on a live power line.

He suffered severe burns after suddenly coming into contact with a high-voltage current and succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

This incident has raised serious questions regarding the functioning of the Municipal Corporation and its contract-based work system.

According to preliminary investigations and eyewitness accounts, the deceased had neither received any specialized training for the job nor had he been provided with safety equipment, such as gloves or a helmet.

It is alleged that he was being made to perform hazardous work without any safety gear or the supervision of an experienced supervisor.

Given the gravity of the matter, Mayor Shashi Sinha has convened an emergency meeting with officials and contractors.

She has made it clear that if negligence on the part of the contractors or departmental officials is proven, strict punitive action will be taken against them. Meanwhile, the police at the Newai Police Station have sent the body for a post-mortem examination and have intensified their investigation into the aspects concerning the violation of safety standards.
