Kejriwal Alleges Pressure to Hand Over Power Companies to Adani
New Delhi | Desk: Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made a striking statement in the Assembly, alleging that during his tenure as CM, he faced pressure to hand over Delhi’s power companies to the Adani Group. He claimed that when he refused, the central government targeted him.
Kejriwal said, “In 2021, Adani was supplying electricity at Rs 2.83 per unit. By 2022, this rate had surged to Rs 8.83 per unit, marking a fourfold increase in just one year. This happened because the BJP government and Adani are colluding.”
Addressing the Assembly, he declared, “I state with full responsibility that during my time as Chief Minister, immense pressure was exerted on me to transfer Delhi’s power companies to Adani.”
He warned of dire consequences had he succumbed to the pressure: “If I had handed over Delhi’s power companies to Adani, electricity would have become unaffordable for the people of Delhi. The rates would have been so high that neither the Delhi government could provide subsidies, nor could the citizens pay their bills from their earnings.”
Kejriwal emphasized, “I refused to bow to this pressure, and that is why I was targeted. My challenge to the BJP is this: before the elections, declare openly that they will not hand over Delhi’s power companies to Adani if they form the government.”
