Raipur | Correspondent : A 25-year-old medical PG intern was discovered dead in his hostel room at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raipur. The incident occurred late Tuesday evening and was reported to the Amanaka police.

The station in charge Dipesh Jayaswal said, the deceased Ranjit Bhoyar originally hailing from Bhubaneswar, Orissa was undergoing treatment for depression.

On Tuesday evening, some friends went looking for him and reached his room.

They knocked on the door several times but got no response. So, they pushed the door harder and were surprised to find Bhoyar lying on the floor inside.

Authorities were informed immediately. Despite efforts by hospital staff, he was pronounced dead. No suicide note was discovered at the scene.

After being alerted, the police reached the spot and handed over the body to the family members after the post-mortem.

According to preliminary investigations, it appears the intern died from an overdose of injected medication. However, confirmation awaits the autopsy report, he added.

Bhoyar could not clear his internship exam and hence was interning with juniors, since then he was undergoing medication, his friend added.

AIIMS Raipur held a condolence meeting following the news. An investigation is ongoing, with authorities awaiting the autopsy report to determine the exact cause of death.
