19 Tribal laborers killed in accident in Chhattisgarh

Raipur |correspondent: Nineteen Tribal laborers, mostly women, were tragically killed while returning to their village after after plucking tendu leaves from a forest in Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham district. The accident occurred when the mini goods vehicle they were traveling in veered off the road and plunged into a gorge on Monday, as reported by the police.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon when an overcrowded speeding pickup truck, carrying 30 to 35 laborers, fell into a 20-ft deep pit in Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh. Eighteen of the deceased individuals were female, with one male casualty.

According to Kabirdham district Superintendent of Police, Dr. Abhishek Pallava, all of them were on their way home after harvesting tendu leaves. Additionally, four laborers sustained injuries in the accident.

The mishap occurred near Bahpani village in the Kukdur police station area of Kawardha district.

The Superintendent of Police stated that 13 laborers lost their lives at the accident site. Additionally, six of the injured individuals passed away while receiving treatment.

Among the injured, three were female and one male.

During the accident, there were between 30 to 35 people in the pickup truck. Brake failure is suspected as the cause.

Local villagers promptly arrived to assist the injured individuals immediately following the accident.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, and Congress State President Deepak Baij expressed deep condolences for the loss of the laborers.
