Three children sexually assaulted daily in Chhattisgarh
Raipur | Correspondent: Chhattisgarh faces a distressing situation, with an average of three minor children being sexually abused every day.
According to data presented by Minister of State for Law Arjun Ram Meghwal in the Rajya Sabha, a total of 5,749 cases have been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act in the state from January 1, 2019, to May 31, 2024.
Nationally, over the same period, 299,759 cases were reported under the POCSO Act, indicating that approximately 152 children are sexually abused daily in the country.
Notably, these statistics do not include data from the Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, and Chandigarh.
Uttar Pradesh leads in child sexual abuse cases
Uttar Pradesh leads in the number of child sexual abuse cases, with 90,822 incidents registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act between January 2019 and May 2024.
Bihar follows in second place with 30,203 cases reported over the same period, while Madhya Pradesh ranks third with 29,419 cases.
Other states with significant numbers of POCSO cases include Odisha with 15,989 cases, Rajasthan with 14,938, Gujarat with 14,524, Maharashtra with 12,991, Tamil Nadu with 11,779, Andhra Pradesh with 11,774, and Assam with 11,756 cases.
