Rains alerts in Chhattisgarh
Raipur | Correspondent: Rainfall is expected in some areas of the state, including Raipur, Durg, and the Bastar division.
Maximum temperatures in the central and southern parts of the state are predicted to drop by two to three degrees Celsius in the upcoming days, with no significant changes thereafter.
The reduced monsoon activity has led to a continuous rise in heat and humidity across the state. Many districts are experiencing above-average temperatures.
On Sunday, Pendra recorded the highest temperature at 40.2 degrees Celsius, which was 6 degrees above normal. Meanwhile, Narayanpur reported the lowest minimum temperature at 23.5 degrees Celsius.
The monsoon has stalled in Bijapur and is expected to reach Raipur in three to four days. Due to the ongoing heatwave, the state government has decided to extend school holidays by an additional week. Schools will now reopen on June 26.
The northern boundary of the southwest monsoon is currently expected to extend through Navsari, Jalgaon, Amravati, Chandrapur, Bijapur, Sukma, Malkangiri, Vijayanagaram, and Islampur. Favorable conditions suggest that the southwest monsoon could advance further, potentially reaching more parts of the state within the next four to five days.
Widespread rains are expected in districts including Sarguja, Koriya, Surajpur, Pendra Road, Bilaspur, and Mungeli. Scattered rains are anticipated in districts such as Jashpur, Korba, Janjgir, Raipur, Durg, Balod, Kabirdham, Rajnandgaon, Bastar, Dantewada, Sukma, and Kanker, according to the MET department.
Additionally, a north-south trough is present from North Bihar to South Gangetic West Bengal at an altitude of 1.5 km. An east-west trough is situated at a height of 3.1 km from Goa to South Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Weather forecasts indicate a likelihood of light to moderate rainfall or drizzle, along with thunder and lightning, at many locations (50% to 75% of places) across the state on June 18. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected at a few isolated locations.
The maximum temperature in the state is expected to decrease after Tuesday. Furthermore, the monsoon is likely to become active in more parts of South Chhattisgarh starting from June 18.
Light rain was recorded in most areas of Narayanpur, Bijapur, and Bastar districts in the Bastar division. Some areas in Sukma district and one or two places in Kanker and Kondagaon districts also received light rain.
However, no rain was recorded in Dantewada district. If similar rainfall continues in the Bastar division on Monday, the arrival of the monsoon in the Bastar division may be officially declared on Tuesday.
