Policeman’s Wife and Daughter Murdered in Surajpur

Surajpur |Correspondent: In Chhattisgarh’s Surajpur district, a head constable’s wife and daughter were brutally murdered with a sword.

Following the heinous crime, an enraged mob set fire to the house, warehouse, and vehicles of Kuldeep Sahu, the alleged perpetrator. The mob also assaulted the SDM who arrived to intervene.

The unrest escalated as the angry crowd shut down the entire city and surrounded the Surajpur police station.

Tensions remain high, prompting a heavy police deployment across the city to maintain order.

Incident Details

According to police reports, Head Constable Talib Sheikh, stationed at Surajpur police station, lived with his wife, Mehu Faizi, and their 16-year-old daughter, Alia Sheikh, in a rented home near the Ring Road.

Late Sunday night, after returning from night patrol, Talib discovered bloodstains throughout his home, but his wife and daughter were missing. He immediately reported the situation to the Kotwali police.

The police launched a search, but nothing was found overnight. Tragically, on Monday morning, the bodies of both Mehu and Alia were discovered in a field along the Jur-Pida road, 5 km from Surajpur.

Earlier Clash: Boiling Oil Attack

Earlier on Sunday, while returning from a Durga Visarjan procession, Constable Ghanshyam Sonwani got into an altercation with known criminal Kuldeep Sahu at Chowpatty. During the confrontation, Kuldeep threw boiling oil on Constable Sonwani, causing severe burns. Sonwani was immediately taken to Ambikapur Medical College for treatment.

Following this, the police were instructed to apprehend Kuldeep. Head Constable Talib Sheikh, along with others, was tasked with locating him. When Talib spotted Kuldeep, the latter attempted to run him over with his car and even threatened him with a sword before fleeing.

The police suspect that Kuldeep later went to Talib’s house intending to kill him, but when he didn’t find him there, he murdered Talib’s wife and daughter instead.

Dispute’s Origin: Four Days Prior

The conflict allegedly began four days earlier at a religious event organized by Shahnaz Akhtar. Kuldeep’s brother, Sandeep Sahu, had a dispute with some boys from Navapara during the event. Two days later, the police detained Sandeep, which enraged Kuldeep, who accused the police of mistreating his brother and threatened revenge.

On Monday, news of the double murder spread rapidly, igniting anger among the city’s residents. A large crowd gathered at Talib Sheikh’s house before marching to the home of the accused, Kuldeep Sahu, chanting slogans. The mob proceeded to torch Kuldeep’s house and the vehicles parked outside.

The crowd then surrounded the Surajpur police station and blocked the road in protest. The blockade was lifted after police officers intervened and assured the crowd of action.

Nevertheless, police forces remain stationed throughout the city to prevent further violence, while the search for Kuldeep Sahu continues.
