Pahadi Korwa elderly died attacked by herd of elephants

Balrampur | Correspondent: An elderly Pahadi Korwa man was killed, and his wife severely injured after they were attacked by a herd of elephants late Saturday night.

The incident occurred when 60-year-old Chamra Ram and his wife, residents of Chilma village, were returning home from the weekly market.

They encountered a herd of eight elephants in the Rajpur forest area of Balrampur.

The elephants trampled Chamra Ram, causing his death, while his wife was also attacked but managed to escape.

Forest department officials were informed and reached the site on Sunday.

They provided immediate assistance to the family of the deceased.

The remaining compensation will be disbursed after the post-mortem report and further investigation.

In response to the incident, the forest department has issued an alert to local villagers about elephants in the area.

Announcements have been made advising residents to avoid the forest.

It has been reported that a group of 35 elephants has been roaming the Rajpur forest area for several days, and a subgroup of eight elephants had separated and reached the nearby Chilma village.
