Chhattisgarh reports 4 deaths daily due to breast cancer
Raipur | Correspondent: More than four women have been dying daily from breast cancer in Chhattisgarh.
The figures were shared in the Lok Sabha in response to question posed by Congress MP Shafi Parambil.
This concerning trend highlights the urgent need for increased awareness, early detection, and better access to quality healthcare services.
Besides, it is important to effectively address these severe diseases.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)- National Cancer Registry Programme, (NCRP) data has reported the female mortality of cancer cases.
The data provided is between 2014 to 2023 in Chhattisgarh.
The breast cancer deaths have increased from 1358 in the year 2014 to 1717 in 2023, which is 26.43 percent hike within a decade.
From 2014 to 2023, the figures have shown a steady and significant increase, starting at 1,358 in 2014 and rising incrementally each year.
Furthermore, by 2015, the number had reached 1,395, followed by 1,433 in 2016, 1,471 in 2017, and 1,509 in 2018.
The upward trend continued with 1,549 in 2019, 1,590 in 2020, 1,630 in 2021, 1,673 in 2022, and ultimately reaching 1,717 in 2023.
This consistent growth over the past decade highlights a notable and ongoing escalation.
This further indicates underlying trends or factors contributing to this persistent rise.
Sudeshna Ruhhaan, representing the Niramayah Cancer Foundation, says reasons for escalation in cases of breast cancer the factors include, increased self-examinations and screenings, heightened awareness among urban women, delayed childbirth or lack of pregnancy, and genetic factors.
These elements collectively contribute to the growing incidence of breast cancer, highlighting the need for continued education and preventive measures.
