9 Maoists killed in encounter in Chhattisgarh
Dantewada | Correspondent: Police have reported that nine suspected Maoists were killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Maoist-affected Dantewada district. The search operation is still ongoing, and authorities have not ruled out the possibility of the death toll rising.
According to police sources, a joint force launched a search operation following intelligence about the presence of Maoists from the West Bastar Division in the border area between Dantewada and Bijapur.
The encounter began around 10:30 am on September 3 and continued for several hours.
So far, the bodies of nine uniformed and armed Naxalites have been recovered during the operation.
The police have also claimed to have seized a large cache of weapons, including SLRs, .303 rifles, .315 bore firearms, and other Naxal-related materials from the site.
In a related statement, the police noted that this latest encounter brings the total number of Naxalites killed by security forces in various operations across Chhattisgarh this year to 154.
