Madhya Pradesh to issue warrants via digital platforms

Bhopal | Desk: The Madhya Pradesh government has introduced a new rule allowing the service of judicial summons and warrants through digital platforms.

This move makes Madhya Pradesh the first state in India to adopt such a system.

Under the new regulations, summons and warrants can now be delivered via WhatsApp, email, and text messages.

Recipients will receive these legal documents directly on their mobile phones, making the process more convenient.

The state has established 22 rules to guide this new system.

The Home Department has issued a gazette notification to formalize the changes.

Courts will now have software to upload summons and warrants daily, making them instantly accessible to police through their systems.

This digital process is expected to reduce the workload on police staff involved in the traditional distribution of these documents and save time.

However, the digital method will not apply to those who do not use email, phones, or messaging apps.

In such cases, police personnel will deliver the summons or warrants in the traditional manner.

For digital service, a summons or warrant will only be considered invalid if the email bounces.

If the email is successfully delivered, the document will be considered served.

After serving the summons or warrant, police staff are required to upload proof on the CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems).
