‘Laapataa Ladies’ Chosen as India’s Official Entry for Oscars 2025
New Delhi | Desk: The Hindi film ‘Laapataa Ladies’ has been selected as India’s official entry for the 2025 Oscars.
The Film Federation of India made the announcement on Monday, confirming that the film will represent the country at the 97th Academy Awards in the category of Best International Feature Film.
Directed by Kiran Rao, ‘Laapataa Ladies’ was chosen by a 13-member selection committee, chaired by renowned filmmaker Janu Barua, from a pool of 29 films.
The list included 12 Hindi films, 6 Tamil films, and 4 Malayalam films, among others. After a competitive selection process, ‘Laapataa Ladies’ emerged as India’s official submission for the prestigious awards.
The film features an ensemble cast including Nitanshi Goyal, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Srivastava, and Ravi Kishan, and focuses on the lives of women from rural backgrounds. Its narrative sheds light on the challenges and aspirations of women in rural India, resonating with universal themes of identity and empowerment.
This selection marks a significant achievement for the film, as it now enters the race for the coveted Oscar, representing Indian cinema on the global stage.
