Journalist Mukesh Chandrakar’s body discovered in a septic tank

Bijapur | Correspondent: The body of local journalist Mukesh Chandrakar was discovered in a septic tank on the premises of a contractor accused in a road scam, which Mukesh had recently exposed on his channel, NDTV. The incident took place in the Maoist-affected Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.

Following the broadcast of Mukesh’s report, the state government initiated an inquiry into the alleged road scam.

Mukesh’s brother, Yukesh Chandrakar, had filed a missing person’s complaint at the Bijapur police station after Mukesh failed to return home.

According to the police, a dedicated team was formed to investigate the journalist’s disappearance.

A cyber team was also assisting officers to track Mukesh’s whereabouts.

Meanwhile, journalists from the local press and the Bastar District Journalist Association met with Bastar Inspector General Sundarraj P. in Jagdalpur, the divisional headquarters, urging authorities to expedite the search. IG Sundarraj assured them that an intensive search was underway.

A special team, led by Bijapur Additional SP Ulander York and Bijapur Kotwali Police Station in-charge Durgesh Sharma, scoured various locations across the district as part of the investigation.

Details of the Disappearance

Yukesh Chandrakar revealed that he last spoke to Mukesh on January 1. However, after 8 PM, Mukesh’s phone became unreachable.

When Mukesh failed to return home by the afternoon of January 2, Yukesh contacted family and friends but received no information about his whereabouts.

He subsequently reported Mukesh’s disappearance to the Bijapur Kotwali police station.
