IMD warns of Cyclone Dana’s effects
Raipur | Correspondent: Cyclone Dana is developing over the Bay of Bengal, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting significant impacts for coastal regions, especially in Odisha and West Bengal.
The cyclone is expected to form a low-pressure area intensifying into a depression by October 23.
Heavy rainfall is forecasted for Odisha from October 23 to 25, with the maximum precipitation likely on October 24.
Effects of the cyclone also anticipated in Chhattisgarh. The Meteorological Department forecasts light to moderate rain across the state over the next two days due to this system.
Following the rainfall, a drop in night time temperatures is expected in both North and South Chhattisgarh.
Impacts seen on districts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rain in several districts of Odisha, including Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jagatsinghpur.
In West Bengal, the Kolkata meteorological office has warned that Purba Medinapur, Paschim Medinipur, South 24 Parganas, and North 24 Parganas are expected to receive very heavy rainfall.
Additionally, Howrah, Hooghly, and Jhargram are likely to see heavy rain on October 23 and 24.
Warnings for the Fisherman
Fishermen are strongly advised against going to sea in the East-central Bay of Bengal from October 22 to 24.
They should also avoid the adjoining areas of the West-central Bay of Bengal on October 23 and 24, as well as the North Bay of Bengal and the waters off Odisha from October 23 to 25.
Those already at sea are urged to return to shore by October 22.
Cancellation of train services due to cyclone Dana
Train operations through the South East Central Railway Raipur Railway Division will be impacted due to Cyclone Dana.

Train number 22973 Gandhidham Puri Express will not operate on October 22, 2024.
Train number 09059 Surat Brahmapur Express is cancelled on October 23, 2024.
Train number 18425 Puri Durg Express will be cancelled on October 24, 2024.
Train number 20823 Puri Ajmer Express is also cancelled on October 24, 2024.
Train number 12844 Ahmedabad Puri Express will not run on October 26, 2024.
