Eight suspected maoists killed in Narayanpur
Narayanpur | Correspondent: Police claims to have killed eight suspected Maoists in an encounter that took place in Narayanpur, Chhattisgarh.
The incident also resulted in the death of one security personnel, with two sustaining injuries.
The encounter began on Saturday morning which lasted until afternoon. Police have indicated that the number of Maoists killed could potentially increase as operations continue in the area.
According to police statements, the operation was launched following the information of significant presence of Maoists in Kutul, Farasbeda, and Kodtameta areas of Abujhmar.
Over one thousand personnel from the Special Task Force (STF) and District Reserve Guard participated in the operation, cordoning off the area with teams from Jagdalpur, Dantewada, Kondagaon, and Kanker.
Police described initial clashes and firing with a police team preceding a larger encounter on Saturday morning.
Authorities have recovered the bodies of eight Maoists from the encounter site, with ongoing efforts to locate others possibly injured.
During the encounter, one soldier lost their life on the spot, while another sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at the district headquarters.
