Eight arrested for slaughtering bull for meat in Kansabel

Raipur | Correspondent: Kansabel police arrested eight individuals on Sunday evening around six for killing a bull for food and sale near Ghughrinala.

The accused were apprehended as they were attempting to flee the scene, having slaughtered the bull and packed the meat into sacks by the riverbank.

SP Shashi Mohan Singh reported receiving a tip-off from an informer about the incident at Sahrapani Ghughrinala. Acting swiftly, SP Singh formed a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Security) Vijay Singh Rajput to catch the suspects.

The arrested individuals include Sebastian Tikka (33), Sanatan Lakra (31), Paikas Lakra (30), Santosh Lakra (35), Uttam Dan (53), Suman Toppo, Jewel Dan, and Vinit Lakra. They were found in possession of 50 kg of meat packed in 10 bags and an additional 40 kg in a plastic bag. The bull’s skin, horns, and hooves were also recovered from the site.

The accused had slaughtered a white bull and packed its meat in 10 plastic bags weighing about 50 kg and another bag containing 40 kg. Police also found the bull’s skin, horns, and hooves at the scene. They seized a total of 90 kg of meat in the presence of witnesses.

The accused confessed to killing the bull for meat. During the search, police also recovered items used in the crime, including knives, an axe, plastic rope, Rs. 400 cash from selling meat, and four two-wheelers.

The accused have been charged under Section 429 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 4, 5, and 10 of the Chhattisgarh Agricultural Animal Protection Act 2004. They were arrested and sent to judicial custody on June 23, 2024.

Special contributions in the operation were made by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Security) Vijay Singh Rajput, Sub Inspectors Ashok Kumar Yadav and Rajesh Yadav, and several other police personnel.
