BJP pit brother against brother-Rahul Gandhi

Jammu | Desk: At a public rally in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi addressed the crowd, emphasizing the unprecedented change in India’s political structure by converting a state into a Union Territory.

Gandhi remarked, “India has seen Union Territories being elevated to statehood and the creation of new states through division, but for the first time in history, the democratic rights of the people of Kashmir were taken away by turning a state into a Union Territory.”

He continued, “Our foremost demand is to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. We will apply pressure on the government to make this happen, and if they don’t, we will ensure it ourselves.”

Accusing the BJP and RSS of promoting divisive politics, Gandhi said, “The BJP and RSS spread hatred and violence continuously, not just in Jammu and Kashmir, but across the country. Wherever they go, they pit brothers against brothers.”

In the rally, Gandhi framed the political struggle as an ideological battle, saying, “On one side, you have those who spread hatred, and on the other, you have those who stand for love and unity.”

He further elaborated, “Their politics thrives on hatred—whether in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, or Manipur. But hatred cannot be fought with more hatred; it can only be defeated with love.”

Rahul Gandhi’s comments come as Jammu and Kashmir gears up for its first assembly elections in a decade, with all major political parties intensifying their campaign efforts.

In a broader political critique, Gandhi claimed, “After this year’s Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s confidence has visibly weakened. He is no longer the same Modi, and the psychological pressure from the opposition is clearly showing in Parliament.”

Before Gandhi’s address, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah also touched on the theme of ‘hatred’ in his speech, echoing similar concerns.
