Accused Arrested in Surajpur Murder Case
Raipur | Correspondent: Kuldeep Sahu, the prime accused of the brutal murder of head constable’s wife and daughter in Surajpur has been arrested
Sources say, Balrampur-Ramanujganj police apprehended Sahu while he was travelling via bus to Ambikapur, though confirmation by the police is still pending.
The murder has shocked the community, with the last rites of Sheikh’s wife Mehu and 16-year-old daughter Aliya performed o Tuesday morning.
A special prayer was held at Aliya’s school Sadhuram Vidya Mandir where students and staff paid tribute.
A day prior, wife and daughter of head constable were brutally murdered with a sword in Surajpur district.
In response, enraged locals set fire to the house, warehouse, and vehicles belonging to Kuldeep Sahu, the alleged suspect in the killings.
This led to widespread tension throughout the district.
Head constable’s wife and daughter found murdered after brutal attack
According to the police officials, Talib Sheikh, a head constable at the Surajpur police station, lived in a rented house with wife Mehu Faizi and teenager daughter Aliya near the Ring Road.
Late on Sunday night, while returning home after the night patrolling Sheikh discovered the floors of the house was full of blood stains. Besides, wife and daughter were missing.
He immediately informed the situation to the Kotwali police station.
Upon reciving the information police officials began their search for the missing wife and daughter.
Despite efforts, nothing was found that night. The next morning, their bodies were discovered in a field on Jur-Peedha Road, about 5 km from Surajpur.
Constable’s family murdered after attack by known criminal
On Sunday, after Durga Visarjan, constable Dhanshyam Sonwani got into a heated argument with a known troublemaker, Kuldeep Sahu, at Chowpatty.
Things escalated quickly, and Kuldeep actually threw boiling oil on Sonwani, which left him with serious burns.
Sonwani was rushed to Ambikapur Medical College for treatment.
After that, police officers ordered Kuldeep’s arrest. Head constable Talib Sheikh and other officers went searching for him.
When Talib spotted Kuldeep, he tried to nab him, but Kuldeep wasn’t having it. He tried to run Talib over with his car and even threatened him with a sword before speeding off.
The police now suspect that Kuldeep, out for revenge, might have gone to Talib’s house that night, planning to kill him. But when he didn’t find Talib there, he tragically took the lives of Talib’s wife and daughter instead.
Conflict began at jagrata program argument
Police report that the conflict began four days earlier during Shahnaz Akhtar’s Jagrata program.
While attending the event, Kuldeep Sahu’s brother, Sandeep Sahu, got into an argument with some boys from Navapara.
Two days later, the police took Sandeep into custody, which infuriated Kuldeep.
He accused the police of assaulting his brother and issued threats against them.
Angry crowd protests, sets accused’s house on fire following murders
On Monday, news of the incident spread quickly through the city, sparking anger among the residents, who gathered outside Talib Sheikh’s home.
The crowd soon marched to the house of the alleged murderer, Kuldeep, chanting slogans along the way.
In a surge of rage, they set fire to Kuldeep’s house and the vehicles parked outside.
The protesters then surrounded the Surajpur police station, blocking the road in their fury.
However, the blockade was lifted after police officers were able to calm the crowd.
Since then, police have been deployed across various areas of Surajpur as they continue the search for the accused.
