7 Dead in Birbhoom Coal Mine Blast

Birbhoom | Desk: Seven workers have reportedly lost their lives in an explosion at a coal mine in Birbhoom, West Bengal.

Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of the death toll rising.

According to police sources, at least seven workers were killed in the explosion at the Gangaramchak coal mine in Vadulia, Khoirashol, Birbhoom. Initially, five bodies were recovered from the mine, followed by the discovery of two more.

Rescue operations are ongoing, with concerns that additional workers may still be trapped underground.

Several individuals injured in the blast have been admitted to a local hospital for treatment.

Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion occurred on Monday morning during coal extraction operations. Unfortunately, some workers were still inside the mine at the time, leading to the tragic loss of life. The workers were trapped when the explosion caused part of the mine to collapse.

Following the incident, senior officials of the mine reportedly fled the scene.

It is noteworthy that this mine in Khoirashol is leased by the state government’s PDCL. A similar incident occurred earlier in Birbhoom, when three workers died in a mine collapse.
