Chhattisgarh orders probe into temple prasad quality

Raipur | Correspondent: A recent order issued by the Chhattisgarh government has initiated an investigation into the quality and safety of prasad distributed at several temples across the state.

The temples where the investigation will take place include Rajnandgaon district’s Dongargarh-based Bambleshwari Temple, Pataal Bhairavi Temple, and other nearby temples.

This investigation aims to examine the standards of preparation and hygiene, focusing on the food offerings presented to the deity.

The move follows a recent incident involving the alleged presence of animal fat in the ghee used for prasadam at the Tirupati Balaji Temple, raising concerns about the quality of prasad.

Authorities are also paying special attention to the ingredients used in the preparation of the prasad, ensuring thorough scrutiny.

The state government has significantly ordered to prepare offering foods using the Devbhog ghee.

However, delays in the Food Safety Department’s provision of test results, often ranging from 15 days to a month, are attributed to logistical and administrative challenges.

By the time the test results are available, the food items in question have typically already been consumed, reducing the effectiveness of the investigation.

Shops found selling food prepared under unhygienic or unsanitary conditions can face fines of up to one lakh rupees.
