Maoist affects 15 of 33 districts in Chhattisgarh

Raipur | Correspondent: Chhattisgarh continues to grapple with Maoist violence, with 15 out of its 33 districts still affected.

Accounting for 40% of the total Maoist-affected districts in the country.

This information was shared by the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

Rai stated that a total of 38 districts across India are impacted by Maoist violence, with a significant number located in Chhattisgarh.

The affected districts in Chhattisgarh include Bijapur, Bastar, Dantewada, Kanker, Kondagaon, Sukma, and Narayanpur in the Bastar region.

Additionally, Dhamtari, Gariaband, Mahasamund, Rajnandgaon, Mohla-Manpur-Ambagadh Chowki.

Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai, and Kabirdham districts are also affected.

Mungeli in the Bilaspur division is similarly impacted by Maoism.

Neighboring states also have numerous affected districts

Apart from Chhattisgarh, eight other neighboring states are also grappling with Maoist influence.

In Madhya Pradesh districts including Dindauri, Balaghay, and Mandla which borders Chhattisgarh are also Maoist affected.

Similarly, Maharashtra’s Gadhchirauli, Gondiya, and in Andhra Pradesh, Alluri Sitaramraju district is on the list of Maoist-affected areas.

Telangana’s Bhadradri-Kothagudem and Mulugu districts also face significant Maoist activity.

Odisha has several affected districts, including Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, Nuapada, and Rayagada.

Jharkhand, following Chhattisgarh, has the highest number of severely affected districts.

It includes Giridih, Gumla, Latehar, Lohardaga, and West Singhbhum being the most impacted.

Additionally, Kerala’s Wayanad and Kannur districts and West Bengal’s Jhargram district are included in the list of Maoist-affected areas.

The widespread impact of Maoist activities across these states highlights the extensive reach and ongoing challenge of addressing insurgency and ensuring security in the region.
