India Alliance wins big in by-elections
New Delhi | Correspondent: The All India Alliance emerged as victorious in the by-elections held in 13 assembly seats across seven states. Mamta Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress swept all the four seats in West Bengal.
The Congress Party also secured four seats in different states, while Bhartiya Janta Party lost two and Congress gained two seats.
In Bihar, most notable result came from Rupauli seat, where the independent candidate Shankar Singh secured seat that stood against Bima Bharti.
Bharti contested the Lok Sabha elections from Purnia on RJD ticket but lost. She contested again from this seat in the by-election but lost the election this time too.
The winning candidates in West Bengal are Krishna Kalyani from Raiganj, Mukt Mani Adhikari from Ranghat Dakshin, Madhupurna Thakur from Bagda and Supti Pandey from Maniktalla.
In Himachal Pradesh, Congress’ Kamlesh Thakur won the Dehra seat, while Hardeep Singh Bawa secured the Nalgarh seat. BJP’s Ashish Sharma won the Hamirpur seat.
Other notable wins include BJP’s Kamlesh Pratap Shah from Madhya Pradesh’s Amarwara, AAP’s Mohinder Bhagat from Punjab’s Jalandhar, and Congress’ Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin from Uttarakhand’s Mangalore.
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s Anniyur Siva won the Vikravandi seat in Tamil Nadu, and Congress’ Lakhpat Singh Butola secured the Badrinath seat in Uttar Pradesh.
West Bengal had the highest number of seats contested (four), followed by Himachal Pradesh (three), and Uttarakhand (two).
