5 CRPF personnel injured in IED blast in Chhattisgarh

Bijapur | Correspondent: Five CRPF personnel were injured in an IED explosion suspected to be planted by Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-hit Bijapur district.

The incident occurred during a security operation aimed at countering Naxal activity.

A police spokesperson stated, “On Saturday, a team of CRPF personnel from the Chinnageluru camp in the Tarrem area set out on a demining operation. While between Tarrem and Gundam, an IED was discovered. Unfortunately, it exploded accidentally while being defused, injuring five jawans.”

The injured soldiers are being transported to the district headquarters for further treatment after receiving first aid, according to the police.

In Bastar, multiple incidents have emerged where safety protocols were reportedly not followed during the defusing of IEDs.

Recently, videos have surfaced showing security personnel attempting to disarm explosives buried under roads using sticks, with no proper safety measures in place.

Several individuals have lost their lives in similar incidents due to inadequate safety arrangements while handling explosives.

A senior police officer told that an inquiry will be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding this latest incident.
