100-Day employment plummets by half in Chhattisgarh

Raipur | Correspondent: The number of workers receiving 100 days of employment under the Employment Guarantee Scheme has halved in Chhattisgarh.

Data from the Rural Development Department shows a consistent decline in the number of people achieving 100 days of employment each year.

This figure has nearly halved in just four years, despite the state government’s claims of providing maximum work.

Currently, 76.53 lakh workers are registered in Chhattisgarh, with 61.03 lakh of them active.

However, less than 10 percent of these active workers have received 100 days of work.

Employees working under 100-day employment keeps dropping

According to the official data, Chhattisgarh witnessed 6,11,987 employees during the Congress regime under the scheme 100 days of wage employment.

In the year, 2021-22 the figures declined to 5,55,490.

In the year 2022-23, the state government could provide 3,51,267 workers under the scheme of 100 days wage employment.

During the election year 2023-24, the workers faced struggle to get 100 days of employment.

Post elections from November, employment did not resume in many regions.

In 2023-24, only 3,43,133 workers received 100 days of work.

No Employment Guarantee for Scheduled Castes and Tribals

Very few Scheduled Caste (SC) workers in Chhattisgarh could manage to get 100 days of work.

In 2020-21, a total of 50,127 SC workers achieved this milestone.

However, by 2023-24, this number had decreased to 29,346.

Similarly, the number of tribal workers receiving 100 days of work has seen a significant drop.

In 2020-21, only 2,61,215 tribal workers could receive 100 days of employment, which fell to 29,346 by 2023-24.
